What we can connect you with

  • Seamless aluminum eavestroughs, formed on site to fit each run with no joints to leak
  • Downspouts and extensions that carry water well away from the foundation
  • Gutter guards to keep out leaves and seeds, especially under maples and pines
  • Aluminum fascia wrapped over the wood boards behind the eavestroughs
  • Vented soffit that lets air into the attic and keeps birds and wasps out

Why it matters

Eavestroughs are part of your basement's waterproofing. A single overflowing corner or a downspout emptying beside the house can put hundreds of litres of water against the foundation in a storm. Downspouts should discharge at least a couple of metres from the house, onto ground that slopes away.

With a new roof

Replacing eavestroughs, soffit and fascia at the same time as the roof is often cheaper and neater, because the drip edge and the eavestroughs work together. It's also the best time to fix soffit venting, which the attic ventilation depends on.

Questions

What size eavestroughs do I need?

Most houses use 5-inch eavestroughs. Large or steep roofs, and houses with long runs, often benefit from 6-inch troughs and bigger downspouts.

Are gutter guards worth it?

Under trees, usually yes. They cut down on cleaning, though most still need an occasional check.

Why are my eavestroughs overflowing?

Usually clogs, a downspout that's blocked, troughs pitched the wrong way, or troughs too small for the roof.

Can soffit help my attic?

Yes. Vented soffit is the intake for attic ventilation. Without it, roof vents can't move air properly, which leads to heat, moisture and ice dams.
